     Martine Lund Hoel

    Artist and Composer

Martine Lund Hoel is a composer and a multiinstrumental artist that has been on stages around the world with her own material for over a decade. She also deliver compositions to a huge number of ceremonial occasions. Early this year she released her debut-album, Hidden Shore, and it sold to 13 different countries and went to every part of the world within weeks. Since January she has been aired on National Public Radio in the US (Echoes and Jefferson Public Radio) and now over a million people has heard her Wedding at Haugseter at www.duirwaighgallery.com.

Martine composes what a lot refer to as world-music, since there are hints from several cultures and traditions in her expression. Her music is by reviewers characterised as universal and her appeal as a hardangerfiddler is unique on a world basis. In her stage appearance, with her heritage close to heart, she also travel naturally through a landscape of progressiv rock, intense balkan rythms, dusty bluegrass and lyrical violin and vocal pieces.

    Concert-Theatre: Triology
Since 2004 Martine have been working with a theatre-team called Kulturproduksjoner, composing and performing music made for different theatrical plays. Kulturproduksjoner consists of two amazing and creative spirits, Karen Høie (actress, manuscript writer and singer) and Svein Gundersen (scenographer, director and maker of most of the things behind the scene).

    The Singing Fiddle
In 2004 Martine made her debut as a theatre composer by composing and performing the music for the piece called The Singing Fiddle. This play is based on music and tales from the gypsy tradition. This performance is the first in a concert-theatre trilogy.

Into the Kingdom of Peer Gynt
The second play in this concert-theatre trilogy is built on the story of the Norwegian «national anti-hero» Peer Gynt, the same myth-material that was used by the author Henrik Ibsen in his famous play Peer Gynt. The historical Peer Gynt was a fabled huntsman from the 18. century, living in the valley of Gudbrandsdalen. Many of the stories from the play can be found in the collections of tales by Asbjørnsen and Moe. They tell about Peer Gynt rescuing maids from the trolls, shooting Bøygen (a gigantic worm-shaped troll-being) and overcoming the challenges with different spirits of the nature, like the beautiful and tempting Huldra (the daughter of the mountain king).

    The Swans of Irland
The Swans of Ireland has its origin from the mythological areas of Ireland. The story about King Lirs cursed children has the redeeming powers of art as the main subject, a power so strong it is able to free the kings children from the spell that was brought upon them, and reunite bitter destinies on both an individual and a collective level.
Mythology and music constitutes equal sizes through the performance of the tale. The text has been rewrote and is told through a dramatic monolog, constantly interrupted by music, song and shadows. The music has the shape, more or less like a symphonic poem, during the entire piece. This time we have added more to the musical expression with to musicians on stage. Next to Martine we can hear Nils Jørgen Nygaard, her faithful accompanist on different stringed instruments and piano. He has also made the arrangements for the music.
